Well Visits

Getting The Most From Your Child's "Well Visit".

In a well visit, our providers want to focus on your child's growth and development, as well as monitor any chronic issues, and watch for subtle signs of any new physical problems. There are many things you can do to help make these visits a positive experience for your child!

Before your visit, make a list of any questions you might have about your child's development, or how they have been doing in school.

To help break the ice, have younger children bring something they might want to show us;
a favorite stuffed animal is perfect or maybe they would like to show us some of their art or school work instead!

If possible, bring a urine specimen (any clean container will work; please label the container with your child's name) for children over 4 years old. Some kids are shy about "donating"
in our office! Also consider having them wear something that would easily allow an exam without the child having to get completely undressed. Nighties, tans and shorts, and swimsuits are all more acceptable to most kids than our gowns or sitting around in
their undies!

If you have to bring along other children, please bring quiet toys to keep them entertained (or for a baby, a place to sleep). This helps us keep the focus on the child who has the appointment and allows you to help with the exam and comfort your child if they are upset by any part of the visit.

Please be positive about the visit with your child, but please do not promise "no shots". Sometimes the vaccine recommendations change and there may be a special reason to give your child an injection. "We'll need to ask the doctor" is a reasonable answer if they're curious about whether they'll need vaccines.

If you have any school, camp, or scout forms that need to be completed, please have the child's information and the parent's section completed before you arrive at the office. This will allow us to return the forms to you more quickly. Please allow 24-48 hours for forms to be completed by our staff.
